Things to do in Bury this Summer

Today I have Karen from That Lancashire Lass telling us all about the fabulous things to do in Bury this summer.

I’m lucky enough to live near to quite a busy town, where there’s always something going on. Bury is well known for its ‘world famous’ market, but there is far more on offer in our Lancashire town than a great deal on fish and meat…

School of Wizardry at East Lancs Railway
10th, 24th and 31st August and 26th Oct

This looks absolutely fantastic – magical even! The School of Wizardry experience includes a return steam train journey, a two hour experience with costumed characters and magical fun along the way.

Theatre at the Museum at Bury Transport Museum
18th – 20th August

What’s more exciting: watching The Jungle Book on DVD at home or watching it as a live performance inside a museum?! Families with children aged five and over can experience the story of Mowgli and his friends in a completely unique way. Discover what life is like in the wolf pack, how to avoid being hypnotised by a snake and what the secret is of man’s red flower. It’s a tale of song, dance, laughter and puppetry that the whole family will enjoy.

Bury Art Museum
Open Daily

Don’t think of this as a regular art gallery or museum. Bury Art Museum boasts interactive exhibitions, events, talks, workshops, family activities and event a moving image gallery! It’s certainly worth fitting in a visit to this Museum during your time in Bury.

The Fusilier Museum
Open Daily

The Fusilier Museum has been on my list of places to take the children since it opened a few years back, yet somehow we haven’t made it! I have heard great things about this place though – educational, interesting for all ages and great value too. There are art and craft activities every Wednesday during the holidays, so make sure you check what’s on before you go.

The Big Grill UK
15th & 16th August

This is the first of its kind in Bury and it looks set to be fantastic. The Big Grill UK is an amalgamation of top quality music from a wide range of genres and mouthwatering food stalls tempting your tastebuds over two days at Burrs Country Park. With a tent dedicated to vinyl-only DJ’s, a ‘too hot to handle’ chilli challenge and the who’s the Top Dog hot-dog challenge, the weekend promises great times ahead!

There is always something to do in Bury. If you need even more inspiration, the VisitBury.com website is a great resource too.
