Family Friendly Restaurants – The Windmill Crown Carvery in Denton

This weekend I headed to The Windmill in Denton for a family meal out. Although The Windmill is within 5 minutes drive from my house we had never been there before but that is certainly going to change. The Windmill is part of the Crown Carvery chain which means that there was a delicious carvery available to tempt us as soon as we sat down as well as a tempting menu full of pub classic food such as gammon and eggs, shepherds pie and fish and chips.  All main meals also come with unlimited accompaniments including chips, mash, mushy peas, baked beans and vegetables.

We started with a sharer platter and a portion of nachos which we all shared and I was impressed to find that the starter was not too oily which is sometimes a problem with this type of food.  The food arrived promptly and was all piping hot which showed it had been freshly cooked, in fact the chicken was so hot it almost burnt my fingers!

For the main course we couldn’t help but opt for the Carvery as it all looked so fresh and after watching some new joints of meat coming out from the kitchen I decided to have a slice of each of them.

A normal carvery costs £4.39 on a week day and £7.59 on a Sunday and bank holidays. I opted for the large carvery so I could have the extra large yorkshire pudding, sausage and extra meat for just £1.50 more. My eyes were definitely bigger than my belly but it was all delicious. The kids carvery costs £3.89  but is free on Sundays and bank holidays with a paying adult.

Both of the girls love a roast dinner so going out for a carvery is perfect for us and with the addition of chips, mushy peas and baked beans available even the fussiest of kids can get their fill. The vegetables were all really fresh whilst not being over cooked and the roast potatoes where crunchy on the outside and lovely and fluffy in the middle.

Obviously a family meal wouldn’t be complete without dessert and I was amazed to see strawberry angel delight on the menu as well as all the classics such as a banana split and Strawberry trifle.

A meal for four with starter, main course, puddings and soft drinks came in at less than £50 and realistically we didnt need the starters or the puddings because the all you can eat accompaniments means that no-one should be leaving hungry.

We will definitely be returning to The Windmill as a family and will even go on a Sunday to take advantage of the kids eat free offer.
