Going to a bloggers meetup is always a fantastic way to spend a day and when that meetup is also tied into a family day out you know you are on to a winner.
Rushing to get out of hospital on Saturday we had an ulterior motive, we wanted to get on the road down to visit my family and spend Sunday at London Zoo.
Dragging along two nieces, my little brother, Nanny and Grandad and meeting up with some blogging friends old and new (Chelsea Mamma, Super amazing mum, Mummy Lish, Ruth and Loretta from More than a mum, I heart motherhood, South of the river mum and Babes about town) we headed out in the glorious February sun shine.

We had some free time before we were all going to meet up to see the Penguin Beach show at 1:30pm so we split up and went in search of some fabulous animals.
With Elizabeth being a big monkey fan we headed across to the Gorilla area first.
My eldest niece decided to enjoy the sunshine with this gorilla.
Below are some fabulous photos from our day at the zoo.
All the kids had a great time designing badges and fridge magnets for 50p in the activity zone.
They made great keepsakes for the children to take away at the end of the day and it was also good to have a bit of down time from all the walking.
Elizabeth said her favourite part of the zoo was the fruit bats, the butterfly enclosure, the walk through monkey enclosure and the giraffes. Although she loved her binoculars from the shop even more.
London Zoo was very wheelchair friendly with ramp access to the different indoor areas and separate Disabled parking directly opposite from the main entrance. The zoo shop was really reasonable with things to suit all budgets and the youngest girls had fun choosing what to spend their £3 on. I think Alison found the best bargain with a £1.25 pen that was also a stamper and a bubble wand (plus it was green which was much more important).
Food costs at the zoo are like most major attractions and certainly something that I would recommend avoiding with a pre-made wrap costing £3.95 and a portion of chips costing nearly £3. Just a small snack with a drink can really make a dent in your pocket.
It is not the best zoo we have been too but all it did have a good variety of animals, lots of indoor spaces and a great educational side to it. I personally found that the enclosures were smaller than I would have liked having been spoilt by the likes of South Lakes Wildlife park

We received free entry to the zoo and £25 to cover travel expenses.
This was provided by Virgin Money who wanted to raise awareness of their Family annual travel insurance
