Ok mostly I blame the school but seriously my three year old thinks I can magic up a costume in one evening and what school tells parents the day before that the kids need to be in costume for World Book Day and have the relevant book! No pirates or princesses as we dont have any books of those although we do have lots of the costumes. So Elizabeth chose this...
What three year old girls wants to be a rat anyway?

So the costume

Black boots - check
Purple trousers - check
White top - check
Sword - check
Hat with feather - check
Black cape - one of mummies tops which can be cut to shreds check

Oh ok so its not that hard apart from the facepaints I have been to four different shops for facepaints tonight what makes it worse is they have to be snazaroo facepaints as otherwise she has a reaction to them and do you know which shop sold them? The closest bloody one!

Anyway I need a drink and then I need to cut up one of my tops to make a cape.

I will post up a picture tomorrow as I reckon she will look great (she better won

As I sit here sipping a glass of cool rose I think back to two weeks ago when I didnt drink. Yes thats right my mum drove me to drink (Hi Mum if you are reading this)

Two weeks ago I didnt drink wine, at all. Then we went to Butlins and there was wine, a lovely cool Zinfandel, mmmmm, I am drooling. Since then there has always been a bottle of Zinfandel in my fridge and no not the same bottle. I am testing them to see which one I like best and have so far come to the conclusion that Bare Foot is the best but I still have a few more to try.

I have yet to try the Echo Falls one or the Gallo one but I can tell you that Blossom Hill is not great.

Anyway back to the point, wine, the thing I did not drink is now something I look forward to. It destresses me, it relaxes me and at this point in my life I believe it is a life saver.

You wont see me around much at the moment as not only am I designing a website for my childminding business, writing policies and procedures and preparing my house for inspection but it is also the financial year end at work which is chaotic and means long hours.

So Mum thank you for giving me wine, I owe you one!

I am sad to say we are soon to experience death in our household, we know it is coming and it is just a matter of how long before the inevitable happens.

When death has occurred previously (fish) the girls have not been too bothered but this time Elizabeth really seems to know what is happening and she keeps telling me she is sad and that he is really poorly and she will miss him.

I am of course talking about one of our hamsters, we have two, one is Alisons called Dusty and one is Elizabeths called Rusty. It is poor Rusty who is on his last legs he is very old and can hardly see, he is really weak, has lost loads of weight and generally looks as though he could die any second. I can understand why she feels so sad but what should I do?

One option would be to take him to the vet to be merciful and prevent this dragging out any longer than necessary the other option is to wait for nature to take its course. I am not sure what to do but I am very glad that Elizabeth attends a catholic school because she is already talking about god looking after Rusty and that he will like being in heaven.

At 3 years old she is so mature and empathetic to the situation that I feel very proud of her but I also dont like to see her so sad and as loving and caring as she is I dont want this to go on too long.

What would you do?

I have been tagged by Mummy of Many Talents and by Here come the Girls so that is 22 questions that I must answer, wow this may take some time.
  • You must post these rules.
  • Each person must post 11 things about herself on their blog.
  • Answer the questions the “tagger” listed for you in her post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  • Choose 11 people to tag and link to them in the post.
  • Let each blogger know that you have tagged them.
First up Mummy of Many Talents asks

1) If you had the power to make one thing better, what would it be?

I would get my teeth straightened I hate them

2) What makes a great blog?

I like blogs that are just that somewhere for someone to put there thoughts, they can be completely random and I think these make the best posts. All blogs have there flaws and there great bits and each to there own.

3) What was the inspiration that brought your blog to the blogosphere?

I read some great blogs and one night I sat here thinking I wished I had something to look back on from all the fun days out and holidays that we take. Something other than photos. I wanted to capture memories. Unfortunately I dont find much time for that anymore but I am going to try to focus more on that than all the other things going on in my life at the moment.

4) SAHM or Working mum?

I am a bit of both, I work school hours in the office and then from home when the girls go to bed. I love picking Beth up from school and I am currently training to become a childminder.

5) Favourite blog post that you have read over the last week?

Now this is difficult for me as I have been away but check out this weeks Share the Blog love sunday where I always list my favourites.

6) What easily ticks you off (puts you in a bad mood quickly)?

Elizabeths stubborness, but she gets it from me so I bite my tongue and try very hard not to rise to her.

7) How many children do you have?

I have 2 beautiful but extremely cheeky little girls

8) Is there anything you have ever regretted writing on your blog?

Yes, I wrote a post about my hubby's temper which people took the wrong way. I wrote it when still annoyed but it reads as though he is horrid which is just not true.

9) What’s your favourite blog post you have written this year so far.

When I wrote about the birth of my premature nephew it really focused me on how lucky we are and made me start training to run a 10k in May.

10) Do you ever enter other bloggers competitions, and have you ever been lucky?

I enter loads of competitions when I see them on twitter or in my reader. I recently won a 3D LG phone which is great (but the battery life is shocking). I have won a few little bits here and there too.

11) What was your last blog post about?

Chocolate and the fact that I am not allowed any for another 40 days.

Now the questions from Here come the girls

  • What would your superhero name and power be?
calculady the power to do long division in my head
  • What is the most embarrassing thing you've ever done?
I was a chicken in Animal Farm for the school play, only realised how embarassing that story is once I got older
  • What do you wish for your children?
To be happy, healthy, to love, to be there own person, to strive to be whatever they want to be and to live a long life.
  • What qualities do you hope your children will inherit from you?
I want them both to inherit my confidence and my ability to say no if I dont think something is right.
  • What do you hope they won't inherit?
My Bum
  • What would you do differently about your time as a parent?
I wouldnt fuss of Elizabeth so much when she was a baby.
  • What was the best advice you received on becoming a parent?
A swaddle blanket with velcro and a moby wrap were the best pieces of advice I ever received.
  • What was the hardest thing about becoming a parent?
Losing being a couple and finding how to be parents instead.
  • Who would play you in your life story? Why?
That bird from legally blonde because she is cheeky but intelligent and has loads of confidence.
  • Who would play your onscreen partner?
I have been told hubby looks like Olly Murs so he would go well.
  • What music would be on the soundtrack?
Lots of Old school metal including Iron Maiden and then maybe a bit of Eric Clapton for a bit of a change.

Now its time for me to write 11 questions for my victims I mean my tagged bloggers

  1. Babies wake up almost every two hours or so, then why say, “sleep like a baby”?
  2. Why is a round pizza put in a square box?
  3. Why is abbreviated such a long word?
  4. Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
  5. Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons??
  6. Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
  7. If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn?
  8. Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

If Wyle E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?
  9. Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
  10. Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
  11. If a cow laughed, would milk come out of it's nose?

And so I tag

As I sit here exhausted from my run I am quickly scoffing down a large bag of chocolate covered cinder toffee because today is pancake day.

Pancake day means only one thing to me and its not about pancakes or burnt frying pans its about 40 days of NO CHOCOLATE!!! I did consider no coffee this year but I am not suicidal and Hubby decided he didnt want to get killed either so the idea of me and no coffee wouldnt really work and so once again I wave goodbye to my chocolate and I look forward to receiving even more of it when the 40 days are over.

I have loaded my Ipod with my Thinking Slimmer chocoholics slimpod and hope that this will be enough to ward of any temptations.

So what are you giving up for Lent?

When you book a holiday you hope that you are making memories and I know that holidays at Butlins do just that.

We saw some great new shows including Sooty, Magic you can do and Animal Adventures. We met the new Skyline Gang, we met some great new redcoats and of course, the most important new addition to Butlins, the lovely Bonnie Bear. Yes you read it here Billy Bear has a girlfriend.

Whilst enjoying all the new things we were sad to realise some people had left before the start of the season including some of our favourite redcoats and Alison's all time favourite character Daisy Cow who has left Butlins and gone to Hollywood to pursue her dreams of becoming a star.

I decided to turn this into a memory post so below is a selection of photos from our trips dating back to June 2010 when we first went for Elizabeths 2nd Birthday.
Our holidays make great memories and that is why we go back again and again. To us Butlins means happy memories that will last forever.

They are all facilities available at Butlins Ocean Spa.

Yes thats right, whilst on my weekend break to Butlins Bognor I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Ocean Spa and not only to relax in the jacuzzi or freeze in the snowcave but to experience a Full Body Comfort Lomi Lomi massage.

Comfort Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage
The comfort massage is performed with nourishing coconut oil, using the forearms, elbows and hands the muscles will be relaxed and skin silky soft.

75 glorious minutes of pure relaxation performed by the lovely Katy. Apart from the dread I felt when I realised I hadnt shaved my legs I was not once self conscious as she expertly revealed parts of my body whilst keeping other parts covered. The towels and blanket were very luxurious and I nearly fell asleep on quite a few occassions.

The room was gorgeous and the warm eye pillow was amazingly relaxing. Just thinking about how good the massage was is making me relaxed.

You will see in the picture I was a bit of a wimp and wore my robe and slippers when I went in the snowcave as it was freezing. I was brave enough to run outside and jump in the 1.3 metre deep outdoor hot tub and although the water was lovely and warm the weather was not and the hailstones certainly put an end to my outdoor fun.

You can order food and drink from the Kaleidoscope restaurant to be brought to the spa and the menu was very impressive. We enjoyed a costa coffee when we had finished in the spa and it was a lovely way to end our experience., looking out over the Butlins resort.

I just want to say a big thank you to Butlins for providing me with use of their spa and a free massage, it was very much appreciated and after all the training for my 10k run it has really helped my muscles to unwind.

Ok 9am on a Sunday morning does not normally see me outside of my house let alone out of my bed but Sunday just gone saw us up bright and early and off to the Imperial War Museum North to meet up with some other lovely bloggers and take a look around the new exhibit.

We had a great exclusive look around the exhibit before the museum opened to the public and I was really impressed. A war museum would not be somewhere I would normally think to take my girls as they are still a bit young but they had so much fun.

The Once upon a wartime exhibit is based around five books and as you go through the exhibit you walk through each book in turn.

To begin with was The War House by Michael Morpurgo the girls loved the horses, both the painting and the wooden horse and the props from Steven Spielbergs adaptation kept hubby happy.

Next up was Carrie's war by Nina Bawden, I read this when I was at school and the girls loved the train and the table with a teaset they were able to play with. The amount of detail that has gone into the exhibit is amazing and making it child friendly means that it is fun for all the family.

The Machine Gunners by Robert Westall was another book I read when I was a child and the girls loved this exhibit more than any of the others. With the aeroplanes hanging from the ceiling casting shadows on the ground and binoculars for the children to look through as well as the bomb shelter (fortress) with a tunnel to crawl through we spent quite a while looking around here.

The girls bypassed The Silver Sword by Ian Serailler as there was another group looking at that part of the exhibit and being young they didnt want to wait or share.

The little soldier by Bernard Ashley is a more modern story, the girls loved this exhibit as it had touch screen monitors and lots of things for them to play with.

We headed downstairs to the activity room which is just amazing, with an area for babies as well as the craft tables.
The girls had lots of fun making the boxes and they have been playing with them ever since. We looked around the rest of the museum, listens to a story based on a ca puppet called Oskar and had lunch in the cafe (great ration bags with brilliant child friendly choices such as cherry tomatoes, boiled eggs and many more). Just before we left we went up in the Air Shard but I was petrified, I hate heights and this was really high. Elizabeth had fun though and here is a picture of her in the lift taking notes in her new pad.

Yep you read that right, not Night Terrors, Night Tantrums. That is what I had to deal with at 3am last night.

I woke up to Elizabeth screaming "I Dont want that one", on going into her bedroom she proceeded to tell me she wanted the square coke from the shop, all this in that very angry demanding voice that she gets when having a tantrum.

When asked if she was having a dream she agreed but stated she still wanted a square coke. Now I am not quite sure where you get a square coke, let alone where to get one at 3am in the morning but I finally managed to settle her by telling her we would get one todayut it made me wonder what do your kids try to get away with at night time?

"La La La La La,
La La La La La,
La La La La La La La La La lala,
oooh oooh ooooooooh
Laa Laa Laa La La"

Anyway

"Whats love got to do, got to do with it? Whats love but a second hand emotion".

So what has love got to do with it? Well ...

"I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my bones, Love is all around me and so the feeling grows"

Yep I feel like I am going to be sick..

"I’m sick of love but I’m in the thick of it
This kind of love I’m so sick of it"

I am sick of commercial love, you know the type I mean, fluffy red hearts, tacky preprinted poems and flowers that look like they will die in a few days. I mean who really wants a rose just because all the shops are selling them, I would rather a coffee in bed or hubby to cook dinner for me.

Valentines day was good when you were a kid at school, it was cute, it was your one chance to show someone that you fancied them but really what good ever came out of that. All I remember about valentines day at school is either the embarassment over the lack or the amount of cards, the pure shame when your secret crush finds out it was you and laughs or worse tells everyone and they all laugh at you.

As you might have guessed we do not celebrate valentines day in our house, why should we waste money on tacky things for each other to show each other we love them, we do that every day in the little things we do. He washes up, I cook dinner, when I go shopping I might buy him a little extra treat, he makes me coffee without asking, these are the things that make us know we love each other and not a fluffy heart or half dead rose in sight.

So whilst you are all being sickening lovey dovey and wasting your money on tacky pink hearts I have decided to go hide away somewhere nice, you might have heard of it.
